The Denver Post
The 8th Continent Project at the Colorado School of Mines is launching an aerospace business incubator for Colorado with the help of a $150,000 grant from the state Economic Development Commission.
The 8th Continent Project, launched last year to establish a space-focused chamber of commerce, funding network, research center and the business incubator, plans to help as many as 15 startups a year.
It is targeting small space companies as well as businesses with products and services derived from space technology and resources, such as GPS services and renewable-energy development.
Burke Fort, director of the 8th Continent Project, said he hopes the incubator can help Colorado’s aerospace industry maintain its position as the nation’s second-largest based on private employment. That position is according to a report from the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp.
